Every Bitcoin 5-minute round on Polymarket asks one question: will the price finish at or above where it started? We pulled the official result of every round from October 29 to November 5, 2026 (1,991 settled rounds; 25 weren't settled yet or weren't listed) to see if there's a pattern a beginner could use.
Up and Down are close to a coin flip
Up won 1,007 times and Down 984 times. A gap that small is well within what you'd expect from pure chance over 2,000 rounds. Up gets a tiny head start from the rule that a tie counts as Up, but it isn't enough to profit from by always buying Up, especially after fees.
Streaks don't predict the next round
A lot of new traders think "it's been Down three times, Up is due," or "it's on a run, follow it." Here's what actually happened after each streak:
| After this many in a row | Times it happened | Next round matched |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1,990 | 50.5% |
| 2 | 1,005 | 49.6% |
| 3 | 498 | 50.8% |
| 4 | 253 | 51.8% |
Every row is about 50%. The longest streak of the week was 12 rounds in a row, which is normal for 2,000 coin flips. Streaks feel meaningful, but they didn't help here.
Time of day looks busy, but it's mostly noise
Share of rounds that finished Up in each hour (UTC). About 84 rounds per hour. Green is above 50%, pink below.
The bars jump around, from 37% Up at 18:00 UTC to 58% at 16:00 UTC. With only about 84 rounds per hour, swings this size happen by chance, and a different week would likely look different. Treat a pattern like this as a question to test on paper, not a rule.
So where does an edge come from?
If direction is close to 50/50, what matters is the price you pay and what's happening inside the round. Paying 50¢ for a side that wins half the time loses money once fees are counted. Traders who come out ahead usually wait for the round to show its hand, like a solid lead late in the round, and only buy when the price still leaves room after fees. Our bet calculator shows the break-even win rate for any price.
How we measured this
Results come from Polymarket's own market data for each btc-updown-5m round between 14:05 UTC on October 29 and 14:00 UTC on November 5, 2026. A round counts as Up or Down only once Polymarket settled it. Past results don't predict future results.
